This painting came from a photograph in Ontario. I really sensed that I needed to let go of a realistic approach on this one, and allow something else to come through. After many spashes and alot of color I saw a day scene turn to night, and my Ojibwe roots began to ease into the lines. It leaves me with an impression of the supernatural in this one.

I stopped to take a photograph of the Duffy Lake with my friend Danielle, as we were heading to the Thompson river for a kayaking trip. On the way home I found out another friend Tyler was missing in the backcountry on a hiking trip and I had to face his death shortly after. Throughout the fall while painting this canvas, I've often thought about how pictures or music remind me of a memory in time. And how this beautiful mysterious scene, echoes to me of eternity. Its a little piece of heaven whispering here on earth...

Last fall I pushed off the dock at Alta Lake in my kayak and captured the marshlands full of lily pads. And soon a message began to appear. The kind that comes to you in those moments of peace... and reveals itself when there is an openness to take the next step into the unknown.

Last night we danced the night away at a Silent Auction Fundraiser for a chicken farm in West Ghana. I donated my "In Transition" painting, and in total we raised $1700. Way to go Squamish!

Foxy Glove

While working on Ashlu dreamin, a summer storm began to break open in the sky outside my house. This is where Foxy Glove was born. It was the combination of a fresh picked bouquet of wild flowers on my table and dramatic skies that started the visuals. Little did I know that as this picture grew, it was very close to foretelling a season in my life soon to come upon me. One full of raging winds, scattered seed and an uprooting in my heart.

Nepali Girls Kayak Club

A project very close to my heart. Friends I met this past winter kayaking in Uganda are joining an international team of women to equip and empower local Nepali women with kayaking and rafting skills to work within the tourism industry.

We are sending a care package from the paddling community in Vancouver with 6 paddles from Aquabound and some donated second hand river gear.

This painting came from an inspiring photograph I took of a sunset in Powell River. The contrast of colors in the water to the sky, all became an expression of reflecting the spirit behind this place. I find myself and others getting lost in the clouds spotting birds, native designs, a whale and anything else you might see.

This is one of the wildest paintings I've done so far. I was questioning whether angels know the outcome when sent to fight and protect us. Do they sacrifice themselves regardless of our decisions or lack of? It was a time when I was questioning God's soverienty verses our free will.
